Over on the FFP Pro loop, we’ve started this ‘Pearl of the Day’ thing, where we post the best thing we’ve written all day. I haven’t been able to keep up the last few days since I haven’t really been writing, but I like the idea of doing it on a daily basis anyway, so here’s a quote from The Mermaid’s Rose, a short one-shot retelling of the end of The Little Mermaid, written for a Backspace contest. (And it was written a few weeks ago, but I promise I’ll do better…)
My fingers brushed the edge of my lips, not daring to creep towards the waiting darkness of my mouth. The space within suddenly seemed cavernous, as though I might be able to swallow the moon with my sadness.
