Today started out with an utterly fabulous fuck-up on my part.
Namely, I attempted to update a plug-in on the Sad Sausage Dogs website (you know – you just click “Update” and you’re done, right? Sure. Unless the update is apparently some sort of massive overhaul that completely changed the database structure and destroys your entire website.)
Yeah. I screamed. A bit. (Actually, it was more of a muffled, “Oh, fuck me,” since I was in the office and that sort of thing is generally frowned upon.
Anyway – turns out it there *was* a warning about the drastic nature of this upgrade, but I didn’t see it due to the way I way I went about it in WordPress. But after running over to the plug-in website and seeing that the changes are irreversible and not to do the update unless you were sure about it and had a back up, I realized I was pretty screwed. When it changed the database, it completely changed the entire back end of how you log in and make updates. All the pages were gone. Boom. Error code everywhere.
After 10 minutes of frantic emails to the creator and my host, I just decided that restoring from yesterday’s backup was the thing to do – which went flawlessly. But sheesh. Teach me to just randomly update plug-ins, eh? (I probably will update it later, but not until I mess with it on my tester site, because I really don’t want to do that again. Bleah.)
In the meantime – you can check out the latest page here. 🙂
I also have a post on Word-Whores about writing short stories (which isn’t my favorite thing, but maybe I just need to practice more?)
Oh, and I’ll be mentioning it again before it happens, but if you’re interested in the live Q&A I’m doing on Shindig (with Sandy Williams!) on October 30th to celebrate our book releases, check out more information about it here.
