Hook Me Up…

Posted in blood, random, wtf | 1 Comment
You know, it’s probably not a good sign that mr myn was driven to purchase me fake energy blood this weekend. But there it is. Of course, he also bought me a Hello Kitty T-shirt, so all is forgiven.. Not sure I’m going to drink it, but I suspect it will make for a nice conversation piece in the office, so that’s where it’s going to go. I will say I find it a tad disturbing that they actually have to put a warning on it that it shouldn’t *really* be used intravenously. Or for a transfusion.  Though I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. God knows, whenever *I’m* looking for some fresh O Neg, I run right down to the nearest Hot Topic.… Read more

Birthdays

Posted in birthdays, Lucy, rambling, random | Leave a comment
The princess turns four today. I’m not doing a whole lot for her tonight – she already had a massive party at House of Bounce on Saturday, plus a separate family party on Sunday. (And yes, I not only fell off the Weight Watchers wagon – I dove head-first into an orgy of cake and pizza and Twizzlers and didn’t emerge until…um. Yesterday. *sigh*) I did buy her cupcakes to take into her class this morning, but I eschewed the goody-bag phenomenon on Saturday. It’s something I never really understood. When I was growing up, I seem to remember pretty low key birthday parties at home  – spaghetti lunches and pin the tail on the donkey. Maybe ten kids. Homemade carrot cake for dessert. Running around outside. Water balloon fights. Looking for toads in the garden. Undoubtedly I’m using some pretty thick rose-colored glasses here. These days it’s all about… Read more

Axe Cop

Posted in axe cop, random, t-shirts, wtf | Leave a comment
I bought mr myn an Axe Cop T-shirt the other day. Two, in fact.  This one, and one where Axe Cop is riding around on Wexter, a dinosaur with machine guns for arms. No I don’t really have a reason, except that it struck me as horribly ironic to have a real cop wearing it beneath his uniform. (Which he might. He also might never forgive me for buying it, but that’s another story all together.) In case you’re wondering, Axe Cop is a comic strip written by a 5 year old boy and then illustrated by his 30 year old artist brother. In either case, go read it. It’s sort of an amusing look at the inner workings of a boy’s mind. (And being the owner of one myself, I can say for a fact that it’s pretty damn accurate.) If you want your own shirt(s), you can get… Read more

Words That Bite You in the Ass

Posted in interview, opinions, random | 3 Comments
I’ve had a slew of blog interview requests come in over the last few weeks (and I’m hoping to get to a number of them soon.) Some of them asked for a press kit, which I don’t have yet. (But hey, turns out I get publicist, courtesy of Pocket, so in the next few weeks that very well may change.) In the meantime, I’ve been looking over the questions  – and it’s great to see the range of them. Several of the interviewers do read my blog and they’ve tailored the questions to various important things like Hello Kitty and man-candy and David Garrett. I’m rather touched by this. There are serious questions, too, of course – and one of them specifically asked if I ever regretted writing a review on a book, now that I’m also an author. And the answer to that is yes. In fact, I’ve gone… Read more

Let Down Your Hair…

Posted in random | 6 Comments
Been thinking about this for a little bit, especially since the topic has come up on several mailing lists I’m on and it’s made me curious how people feel. The theory is that in the old days before Facebook and Twitter and the Internet and all that, authors often seemed to be in an ivory-tower of sorts. There was a mystique involved in the creator of the written word. These days the veil is a bit more transparent. Authors tweet what they had for breakfast, where they’re going shopping, what they’re reading these days. Facebook allows fans to see pictures, get instant updates and possibly discover where the author lives. (Depending on security settings.) Blogs, GoodReads, LinkedIn – all of them are portals into everyday information about a person, but is this a good thing or a bad thing? Obviously security is one thing that shouldn’t be compromised. I’ll admit… Read more
