Frontloading the Words

Posted in craft, updates, writing | 2 Comments
I’m not even sure if frontloading is a real word, at least in the sense that I’m using it. I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that often times I’ll stop writing before I’ve run out of words. ** Which might sound a little strange, until I realized I’m doing it so I’ve got an easy start the next day. If I’ve already got something to work with, it makes the rest of it that much easier. Or that’s the theory, anyway. Sometimes I just put down that bit of a scene and then twiddle my thumbs for a while as I figure out where to go next. Panster issues, for certain. I’ve mentioned before I do my best brainstorming in the shower. On some days (if I’m home alone), and I’m stuck, it’s not uncommon for me to take three or more, although one is usually more than enough.… Read more

Screaming Monkeys and Luggage Condoms

Yesterday was Father’s Day, obviously – most of which I spent over at the in-laws. Mr myn’s dad is in the more advanced stages of Parkinson’s, so it’s a rather bittersweet sort of holiday. In fact, I’m feeling rather private about it, so I’m not going to say much more than we had dim sum and the kids all played in the pool and we enjoyed the day as best we could. For my own little family celebration, we kept it pretty low key. Mr myn and I have gotten to the point where we don’t spend a huge amount of money on these sorts of holidays. I decided to be a bit more tongue-in-cheek this time around and made a number of small purchases to contribute to his Zombie Apocalypse Kit. (Yes, he sort of has one. No, it’s not for zombies. But I call it that anyway since… Read more

The Logic of a Labor of Love?

Posted in editing, random, updates | 4 Comments
Okay – the picture has nothing to do with anything, except it struck me terribly funny. At least for about ten seconds. Subsequent viewings continue to make me laugh, so I’m posting it. Anyway, my edits are due in five days. Five. I’ve found myself panicking at the edge of the wee hours as I continue to rework the end. There are a number of gaps that I didn’t mesh together quite right when I rewrote a large chunk of the story. Things that made sense before are either no longer needed or get explained elsewhere…or, as I discovered the other night, no longer make any sense at all. It’s put in me in a bit of bind, since I’m basically out of time. I did spend a fair amount of time going over it last night, and jabbering away at Jeffe around midnight. I was just on the edge… Read more

Blargh.

This week has been a bit crazy as far as the emotional ups and downs go. (Some of which I’ve already extrapolated upon in the blog, and some of which will remain neatly private.) If I’ve been an insane grudgefuck of a girl to anyone out there this week, then I deeply apologize. Lord knows I went off on my kids last night, a fact for which I am not particularly proud. (We did make up afterwards, which was nice, but not really a position I wanted to be in.) I shall endeavor to be better next week. At any rate, I’ve been debating on the wisdom of a few things – my official author site is currently being developed – should hopefully be finished by the end of the month.  I’m trying to decide if I should just fold this blog into it, or keep it separate. Mostly because I’m feeling… Read more

Weekend in a NutShell

Connor likes pie. I know this because all he’s been singing lately is this little ditty about “I like pie! You like pie! Mama likes pie! Daddy likes pie!” Which is a blatant lie, by the way – I detest pie in all its sordid forms. Maybe chocolate pie is okay, but I won’t touch it if it has a fruit filling of any kind. And today on the way home from Great Country Farms, I got to listen to him sing the pie song to the theme of The Go Go’s, “We Got the Beat.” It went something like “I like the pie. I like the pie. I like the pie. Pie pie pie pie!” Yeah. Anyway. So Saturday morning I tried my new Star Wars pancake molds – and they are totally awesome. Yoda’s ears have a tendency to break when you flip them over though, so just… Read more
