Stealth Blogging

Posted in random, updates | 4 Comments
I told myself I wouldn’t blog this weekend, just to give myself a bit of a break. Apparently I can’t stay away, though, and so here I am. In truth, I wanted a few days away – just given how horrible last week was health-wise, it felt good to *not* be a complete wreck. So, yesterday I went shopping. Bought some pants. A travel kit. Other odds and ends. On a side note, here’s a big fat WTF to Banana Republic. The last few years I have loved wearing your jeans. But now you seem to have switched your sizes to UK numbers and shrunk them. I *was* wearing your size 6. I could barely fit into your UK size 10 (30?) Looking on your online site reviews though, it seems I’m not the only one complaining. Sounds like they aren’t shrinking right anymore either. I guess I’ll just chalk… Read more

More Hay, Trigger? No Thanks, Roy. I’m Stuffed…

Posted in back pain, updates | 5 Comments
I had my first set of trigger point injections today. They weren’t particularly pleasant, but they weren’t the worst things ever, either. Essentially the doctor just injected those terrible knots with a solution of lidocaine and cortisone, which numbs the muscle and also forces it to relax. After which I went to PT (my acupuncture center does both) and they manipulated the holy fuck out of them. I feel like a tenderized piece of meat…but the radiating pain is greatly reduced, so I’ll take that. In fact, I’m going to have to – I’ve got 5 more treatments in the next 2 weeks, on top of another MRI (with contrast this time) to determine if there’s scar tissue building up on the surgery site. My SI joint was completely out of alignment too (my right leg was longer than my left, whee). So pain doc reset that yesterday (yes, that’s… Read more

Following Up

Posted in updates | 6 Comments
Of course, the problem with the sort of announcement that I had on the blog yesterday is that it’s a rather hard act to follow. It’s not like I’m going to look out my door and see a posse of photographers or anything. The work doesn’t stop merely because I made it up another rung of the pubbing ladder, and really, I’m only at the first step.   Life does go back to normal – as evidenced by the entire abandonment of anything remotely resembling neatness exploded across my family room last night.                                   I still had to make dinner. I missed Grey’s Anatomy. (Though the show has pretty much jumped the shark at this point, so I’m not sure that’s any big loss).  Connor dumped a bowl of popcorn on the floor. I… Read more

Grumpy.

Posted in back pain, grumpy as fuck, updates | 3 Comments
Not much of an update, but I couldn’t think of very much to blog about today. It’s snowing again. School has been closed for the rest of the week and I’m fairly sure we’re going to be losing power again tomorrow. (They are talking major winds tomorrow on top of the snow.) My back is utterly killing me tonight. I made it into work for a few hours today and went to my acupuncturist. Her husband is PT guy, so he worked my back out, but as I tried to explain to him, when the muscles get like this, ultrasound and heat/stim just don’t do anything. Painkillers don’t work. Muscle relaxants don’t work. I think I’m going to insist on getting another MRI next week when I go back to the doc, but I admit I’m getting a tad worried because the muscle cramps and deep radiating pain I’m getting… Read more

Snowed In.

Posted in snow, updates | 4 Comments
I’m not entirely sure how much snow we got, but let’s just say over 30 inches and then some. However, I’d like to give a nice shout out to my neighbors for taking pity and digging me out this afternoon. Much obliged and there’s a gift card to a very nice restaurant coming your way shortly. 🙂 And no, I’m not a lazy sod who won’t shovel snow, but given the amount and the back issues, there’s not a chance I’m going to try it unless it’s a real emergency.  Mr Myn was gone all weekend as the police force put the shifts up in a nearby hotel so as to minimize travel, but finally came back late this afternoon (and helped out the neighbors as well). We did lose power for about 8 hours yesterday, so I debated trying to dig out and head out to grandma’s, but in… Read more
