Corners and Scenes and WTF Do I Do Now?

Posted in craft, updates, writing | 5 Comments
Not that I’ve actually written myself one, that is. Just a bit of a speed bump on the writing front.  I’ve been clipping along at a fair enough rate on ShadowWeaver, but it’s quite obvious to me that I’m starting to flounder a bit with the direction, so I need to regroup the end bits of what I have. The current scene involves a road trip – essentially a Mystery Machine of a van rambling its way down the New Jersey Turnpike. And Phin appears to be belting out Rick Springfield’s Jessie’s Girl. (And no, I don’t know why – but there it is.) I think originally I wanted the trip to take two days of driving, but as I look it back over, I’m not sure it warrants that. Part of the problem is that I never really settled on just where the imaginary town of Portsmyth is located.… Read more

And mostly a big duh here. Dial up on spotty lines in the mountains of Vermont is kind of lousy. LOL. But then, that’s the point. I do have some really nice pictures I hope to get up when I get back to more “civilized” networks, but in the meantime, I’m off to enjoy the quiet. 🙂… Read more

I had a different blog post in mind for today, but it’s been superseded as some things have come up. Namely, my mother-in-law fell while mopping the floor last night and broke her leg very badly. The tibia broke near the ankle and it was a compound break (sticking out of the skin, etc). It also nicked some of the blood vessels  –  they had some trouble getting a pulse back in her foot last night (which could have led to the loss of her foot). They were able to stabilize her and she went into surgery this morning, and everything is being held together with plates and screws. Long and short of it is that it’s an extremely bad break, according to the doctor. She’ll be in the hospital until Friday at the earliest and then in bed-rest/wheelchair for the next 6 to 8 weeks, after which she may be entered… Read more

Upcoming Things

Just an update post of things I have going on – which is basically my way of saying I’m going to be terribly busy in the next few months. Agents and revisions aside, as of January I’ll be taking the reins of the FF&P website as the new webmaster. Part of this is going to include moving the entire site to a new host. Unfortunately it’s written in Cold Fusion, which I’m not familiar with. The good news is that the current webmaster is going to give me the basics here, but looks like there’s going to be a lot of manual table creation (probably about 30 hours worth or so). In theory, the new host will be better for us in the long run, though only time will tell. I’ve got several render commissions in the works now too – most of which were pushed off for November due… Read more

Meh.

So no staple removal today. Apparently there was some redness/drainage at the bottom that concerned the nurse, and while her “gut instinct” was that I’d be fine, she didn’t really want to take that chance. (As in – if we remove them and it’s not healed, you’re going to have to go back to surgery. Um. No. Thanks.) Rather than take that chance, we’re going to wait until Tuesday. And for good measure, I’m on about 1000 mg of Cefrin. Per day. For 10 days. Whee! (And I’ve already called my other doc and got a nice round of Diflucan ready to go, ’cause this is the same antibiotic they gave me during the surgery last week…and that took about 5 hours before causing the other thing. Just a matter of time, and I’ll be damned if I’m stuck on a Sunday night with no one to call. LOL.) Otherwise,… Read more
