I had a sleep study done last week on the advisement of one of my docs. It was mostly one of those things where they don’t necessarily suspect anything, but they want to rule out the particulars of sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome. The good news is I passed with flying colors. The bad news…eh, still not getting a lot of good rest. The sleep doc suggested I probably had an immunodeficiency of some type, which yes, I do – but in some ways it was a relief to not have one more thing going on. (I really, really didn’t want to have to deal with a CPAP on top of everything else.) I’m a pretty high stress person -my brain is always whirling with something, even when I’m so exhausted I can’t directly focus on anything. I’m over at SF Signal’s Mind Meld today, weighing in on the whole “strong women in UF” trope that is fairly prevalent in much of today’s UF books. Heh – it’s actually sort of funny, because when I set out to write A Brush of Darkness, I deliberately tried to avoid the whole “kick-ass lady in leather” concept – which is why Abby isn’t a slayer of any sort and why she’s so physically damaged. Not that there’s anything wrong with the books that have kick-ass ladies in them – I’d just read so many of those book recently that I didn’t really want to write one, if that makes any sense.
