Beyond
Just a quick post to make note to any comics peeps about the upcoming Beyond Anthology (which is taking pitches until December 15, so there’s still plenty of time.) Submission guidelines are here. It’s a really important and timely topic and given the SFF bent required for submissions, it’s definitely something I want to see happen. (Plus there is a really wonderful line-up of authors and artists already on board. I think it’s going to be great.) Aimo and I are going to pitch something for sure – we have the idea hammered out, so I just need to put it into a “proper” sort of comic format. (And attempt to rein myself in to the max of 16 pages. Hopefully it will be shorter than that, but I have a hard time keeping things from exploding.) If it doesn’t make the cut, we’ll write it anyway because we really…

Gender in Comic Books
I put this out on Facebook yesterday, but for anyone who may have missed it, there’s a free online class on Canvas Network dealing with Gender in Comic Books. It’s put out by Ball State University, and it just started yesterday, so you still have time to enroll and check it out. It’s a 6 week MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) – which means there’s about 7k people in it, but there’s a lot of good discussions going on. Once a week there’s a live chat with various comic book creators. (Including Gail Simone on week 4, so yowza!) Also cool? The required reading is comics- which Comixology is offering a discount on, even if you *aren’t* taking the class, so worth checking out anyway. Seeing as gender portrayals in comics and video games is one of my current hot buttons, it only made sense to sign up. I know…

Womanthology Space!
It’s officially out! Lots of different places to buy it from, but I’m linking over to Comixology for the digital convenience. My 6 page story is called The Wind in Her Hair – and yes, it’s The Little Mermaid…retold with genderswapped steampunk robots. Because I can. (Obviously I’d love it if you guys could spread the word and let me know what you think, but I’m just super happy to have it finally released.)…

Womanthology: Space
Say what you will about my comments on wanting to write a retelling of The Little Mermaid with pansexual robots – but that particular tagline just nabbed me a spot in IDW’s upcoming Womanthology: Space #5 (5 issues with 3 stories each – I’m so freaking flattered and excited I was chosen.) And by nabbed, I meant the artist who picked me was intrigued by the concept. The artist in question is the super talented Chrissie Zullo, btw. Does that mean we’re writing it? I don’t know yet. The overall theme is Space, and Issue #5 has a sub-theme of Comet, so somewhere along the way, the story has to have *something* to do with a comet. So we shall see. But on a more serious note, I have been following along with the Womanthology concept for quite a while – I was a Kickstarter backer the moment I heard about…
