Happy New Year

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 4 Comments
I’m not one for making resolutions,  actually. Not that I don’t have some things I want to change this upcoming year about my outlook – though I’m actually going to talk about that more on Thursday for my Word Whores post. So, where does that leave me here? Well, for starters, I can look back on the past year and wonder at the fact that I manage to publish two books, sell a short story and a comic book story…and start up/continue a comic book collaboration with someone who has become a pretty dear friend. (The fact that I still have my day job and my kids aren’t running wild with hedgehogs is an added bonus.) I did my share of cons, got a new tattoo, traveled about the country and hung out with a lot of very cool people. Yes we had a shower that sorta fell apart and… Read more

Word Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | Leave a comment
Been a while since I had one of these, but not a whole lot going on today. (Not counting the arrival of my back brace. Doctor was hoping it might help relieve some of the pressure on my spine. In truth I feel like I’m in a very ugly corset, at the moment. Not sure it’s helping, but I’ll give it a few weeks and see what happens. ) Actually, there is some funny stuff happening behind the scenes, but I’ll get to that later when I’ve got a few more details. (Not a new book or anything, just amusement for a good  cause.) Anyway – the topic over at Word Whores this week is about using holidays as a plot device. Good? Bad? Ugly? As with everything else, YMMV. Though most theme stories aren’t really my cup of tea, I can definitely understand why some people like them.  Also,… Read more

Meringue Mountain

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 2 Comments
I spent most of the weekend baking cookies. My yearly baking of meringues takes a very long time to complete – and this year I did a triple batch, plus a single batch of standard chocolate chip cookies. Some of these are being sent out as gifts, but most will probably end up in my belly. Because, duh. They are awesome. Especially with ice cream.  I sorta suspect I have too many still, though – so I’ll be bringing in some to work to give out.  I’m oddly stingy about that, though – as much as I like it when people enjoy the fruits of my labor – after you spend about 6 hours baking the things, (and 70 minutes of that is stirring in the sugar, thanks),  I want to make sure they’re appreciated. Or something. (And meringues are an acquired taste, I think – too sweet for many,… Read more

Friday Updates & Sundry

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , | 4 Comments
First off, I want to give a shout out to the World’s Biggest Bookstore in Toronto (and specifically Jessica Strider) for setting me up with a very nice display! (And go here for the matching interview, which can also be read at the display.) And again, sorry for not blogging as much recently. Sorta taking this month as a bit of a break, but I’ll be back on the ball starting in January. By the way – I owe some contest winners their books – I should be getting all those out on Monday. Got a ton of stuff to mail out, just gotta put it all together. I was over at Word Whores yesterday talking about how you know when a story is “done.” (Ha ha – if only it  were that easy. Sometimes it really is a gut thing.) Fox & Willow was updated yesterday as well –… Read more

Little Fish

I realize I haven’t been blogging as much the last few weeks. This whole month has been a bit of a time cluster honestly, and the rest of this week isn’t going to be much better. I’m starting a new round of training for work. It’s a virtual classroom and all, but I find my brain basically getting pretty fried by the end of the day and it doesn’t leave me very motivated to do anything on the computer, let alone blog. Plus, this is the first time in over three years that I haven’t been under a deadline of some sort. It’s a weird and slightly discombobulated feeling. And I’m working on this new project as I can (NaNo just didn’t happen the way it should have), but I’ve been putting this awful sort of undue pressure on myself to make it Good. Whatever Good really means. Just that… Read more
