Monday WTFkery
So, yeah. Been a while since I’ve posted a good bit of wtfkery and with the holidays coming up and all…what better than a usb drive disguised as a tampon? Even better, you can order them in different sizes – 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB. And yes, the web site indicates the size difference by the flow rate. As you do. But yeah, I’d totally use one. So I was surfing around during one of my class breaks today and wandered over to Jeffe’s blog – she’s actually guest posting today over at FF&P and talking about what it’s like when you write books that are cross-genre. And how disheartening it is to hear again and again from editors that they love your writing style, they love the story, but… …they can’t sell it because they don’t know how to market it. Or they don’t know where it will fit. Or whatever. Frankly, I’m getting a tad tired of hearing it. With the advent of ebooks getting so popular, I’m not sure if “shelf space” should be a deciding factor anymore. But I guess this is why I’m not a publisher. And this goes back to the post I wrote about my time at WFC – so, so easy for the established old guard to spout off…

Monday Updates….mmmkay?
I’m in training all week for my “real life” job, so my internet socialization is probably going to be a bit sparse as a result – and that probably includes blogging for some of this week (unless people want blog posts about Exchange Server 2010. Which I highly doubt.). I suspect my NaNo attempt has been completely derailed at this point as well – I’m in class all week this week and also at the end of the month – between that and the book release/con stuff/blog tour stuff? I’m pretty tapped out. I *am* still writing daily, just not as much as I should be for NaNo. Ah, well. Mini WFC Recap
So I’m finally back home after several lovely days up in Toronto for World Fantasy Con. Back being an operative word since I’m fighting a killer cold and trying to catch up on sleep and work emails. But as much fun as I had, it’s always nice to come home to my own bed. So – a few highlights. Toronto was nice, but the hotel was way out of the way of the downtown area, which meant I didn’t get a chance to see and do everything I wanted. Cabs were ridiculously expensive and some friends had cars, but traffic was an absolute nightmare. (Took one friend over 2 hours to get from the city to the hotel one evening, after taking her about 30 minutes going in the opposite direction.) So, to the friends I didn’t get to see, I’m very sorry and hopefully we can work something out…
